What are CRS & ICANS?

Two important complications of CAR-T therapy

Cytokine Release Syndrome

Immune Effector Cell-Associated Neurotoxicity Syndrome

CRS is a systemic inflammatory response that can occur following immune effector cell activation. Severity can range from fever and other systemic symptoms to hypotension, hypoxia, and severe organ dysfunction.

ICANS is a neurological toxicity associated with immune effector cell therapies. Early manifestations may include changes in language, attention, writing, or mental status. Severe cases can progress to seizures, reduced consciousness, or cerebral oedema.

The clinical challenge

ICANS does not affect every patient in the same way. Risk and severity are influenced by multiple clinical and biological factors, while reliable early prediction remains an active area of research.

Axvia is investigating whether routinely available patient data can help identify elevated risk earlier, supporting proactive clinical monitoring.
